The Contemporary Runway at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week was in every essence of the word contemporary, bringing leading trends and modernistic designs to the forefront. We saw styles from the likes of Neo Dia, Daniel Avakian, Kuwaii, Livia Arena, LIFEwithBIRD, Manning Cartell, búl and ALPHA60, parading bold colours, textures and patterns that seek to breathe new life into Australia’s thriving fashion scene.
Bright marigold tones were a strong theme used in designs by Daniel Avakian, búl and Manning Cartell. The colour had us envisioning the golden yellow, pollen-filled centres which reveal themselves as flowers bloom in the springtime, or the warm, golden rays beating down on our skin during a sunny day in spring; it is a colour that truly encapsulates everything about the new season and is one we have no doubt you’ll start seeing a lot of.
RMIT graduate team Gavin Lowes and Rebecca Chua of Neo Dia brought textures to the runway, flaunting different kinds of of bunched up sheer material and a clear, zig-zagged mesh overlay which was definitely one of our favourites on show. These were pieces you could imagine would be satisfying to touch.
