The Adelaidian were invited to attend the second ever Fashion Concept Runway Show, featuring a line-up of eleven local designers and hosted by the fabulous Hayley Pearson and Lauren De Cesare of lifestyle blog Adelady.
Held at the heritage listed Queen’s Theatre last week, Fashion Concept showcased some stunning pieces from womenswear labels and menswear labels alike, as well as millinery from Sylvy Earl, worn by the stunning AZALEA Models and RMT Model Management.
Guests were treated to a selection of tasty cocktails and beverages provided by Steve the Bartender, as well as mexican edibles from the popular Taco Cat minivan. Again, Fashion Concept teamed up with Redken to offer VIP guests exclusive gift bags, including Redken sample products and other goodies from sponsors Aleksandra Pinneri of Make-Up Studio Australia and Blow It’s A Hair Thing.
The event itself was created as a way of helping gain exposure for Adelaide’s talented designers. Creative Producer Lily Lou and Event Organiser Hue Le aim to better the growth of Adelaide’s fashion industry with the introduction of more fashion-oriented events in our city.
Natalie Ivanov opened the parade with some sleek, black garments, working closely with leather and satin to create her classic looks. Natalie does not have her own label and participated in Fashion Concept in the hopes of getting her name out there as a pattern maker and machinist, showing off her skills in fashion design. Her pieces scream class and elegance – perfect for the workplace or dressed up for a night out.
The next designer, Iliana The Label, graced the runway with some elaborate, burlesque-inspired dresses, skirts and bustiers – some delicate and fairytale-like in pale pinks and lavender grey, others sexy and sultry in striking black and gold.
Streetwear labels Average Cat and Fools And Trolls rocked the runway with some trendy pieces, including the likes of men’s pants, sweatshirts and warm winter jackets from Average Cat as well as quirky printed tees and socks from Fools and Trolls.
We saw unique, handmade clothing by Closet Mod which, inspired by the modernist culture of the 1960’s, included flared pants, groovy patterns and super cute skater-type skirts. We particularly loved the flared white pant paired with a high neck, camel/orange-coloured top.
A monochromatic collection by Ashlee Graham called White Noise presented pieces inspired by architectural and industrial elements, exploring the world of ‘hard meets soft’. If you want to read more on Ashlee Graham and her conceptual designs, click here.
Millicent Elizabeth featured again in the second round of Fashion Concept, bringing to the table a set of lasting classic styles for the busy modern woman. An interesting fact about this unique label: Millicent Elizabeth only offers 100 garments per style, so if you’re after a particular garment, you better get ordering!
We’ve always loved the quality garments from Revoque, cleverly tailored to suit women of any shape and size. After opening a flash store and launching an Autumn/Winter collection this year, we were excited to see Revoque getting involved with Fashion Concept this time round.
New designer on the block, Paige Rowe, launched her own collection in the same venue just this August and had fashion-lovers yearning for more. Her clean-cut pieces were, again, presented impeccably on the runway, made with stretch denim, silk, 100% superfine merino knitwear and complimented with leather/beaded accessories. Similar to Ashlee Graham, the garments are largely monochromatic and can be used as staple pieces for any woman’s wardrobe.
Millinery by Sylvy Earl added a nice touch to the evening as guests were given a preview of her hand-crafted, simple yet sophisticated headwear, made to compliment an outfit, not to take away from it.
The finale revealed a special sneak preview of selected garments from the new and ever so luxurious Jaimie Sortino collection, officially launching tonight as part of a VIP runway show. To find out more about the enchanting new collection, click here.
Definitely a stand-out end to a stand-out show.
