Burnside Village is supporting local design students, illustrators and creative customers by holding a competition called The Fashion Illustrative. The competition invites entrants to design a fashion illustration digitally or by hand, gathering inspiration from the 100 retail outlets at Burnside Village. The illustration must feature a brand or retailer that lives in Burnside Village to be eligible.
The competition is running until the 25th of February 2016 and is a unique way to recognise some of Adelaide’s many hidden talents in the design industry.
Some amazing prizes are up for grabs! Not only will the winner be granted incredible exposure, but will also receive a $1,000 Burnside Village gift card. The winning design will also be created into a special, limited edition Burnside Village gift card available for purchase. The founder of Burnside Village, Mr Pat Cohen, has also invited the precincts customers to seek involvement, giving them the opportunity to vote for their favorite design throughout March. The illustration with the most customer votes will win the People’s Choice Award, along with receiving a $500 Burnside Village gift voucher.
Mr Cohen is a big believer on connecting art with fashion by supporting talent within the local community, and this is how he believes Burnside Village is distinguished from other shopping precincts in Adelaide. The competition will be judged by local SA fashion experts including Mr Cohen himself, Clique Magazine’s Charlotte Chambers, and TAFE SA Fashion Industry Lecturer Merrin Stacey, who has the exciting task of selecting six finalists whose submissions will be printed and displayed in Burnside Village throughout March.
TAFE SA Fashion graduate and winner of Student of the Year 2015 Petar Prodanovic will also be onboard acting as ambassador. He expressed that the Fashion Illustrative is a great opportunity to encourage and expose creative people of Adelaide and to showcase their talents. He is looking for eye catching, beautiful illustrations that possibly have a hidden message or story making it aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Mr Prodanovic’s advice to all the creative competitors is;
“Follow your dreams and you bliss/talent, you’d be amazed at how many windows of opportunities will open up to you. Say yes to any opportunities, and stay humble.”
