The Adelaidian is very excited to be covering the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival for the first time, and Monday night we attended the Opening Event Runways presented by David Jones!
Held at the Royal Exhibition Centre, the show featured a medley of over 100 designers stocked at David Jones including Adelaide’s Keepsake the Label, C/MEO Collective and The Fifth Label. Other fabulous Australian labels shown were Scanlan Theodore, Dion Lee and Christopher Esber, and huge international labels such as Alexander Wang, Carven and Helmut Lang.
There were plenty of new season trends marched along the runway that we expect to see hit the streets soon this Autumn/Winter. Minimalist style took centre stage, with many labels using little embellishments or colour and instead focusing on structure, cutouts and use of material. Designers featured neck and shoulder detailing, with plenty of bare shoulders and high necks contrasted with open chests. The oversized trend has not left us yet, as we saw billowing, bold clothing swamping the models and making us glad we invested in ankle-length coats last winter. Reflecting the minimalist style of clothing is the colour scheme, which was predominately neutral colours of grey, black, white and nude.
Tickets are still available for many of the remaining shows at VAMFF, and we hope to see you there!
