Euro summer is upon us, but for those not making the 23-hour trek across the world this year, you can still enjoy a taste of Europe’s epicurean ways right here in Sydney. Starting today, 11th July, and running until Sunday, 14th July, Bastille Festival is popping up in Sydney, with one of France’s iconic wine regions, the Loire, putting on some very special events.
Spanning 800km along the Loire River, this wine region is incredibly diverse, producing wines ranging from dry to sweet whites, fruity to structured reds, tender rosés and delicate sparkling. Festival-goers will be able to travel through the region, sampling wines at the Loire Wines bar for prices ranging from $7 for a half glass to $15 for a full glass. Bastille Festival are also offering a Tour de France of Wine Regions pass, which will get you a passport that can be used to travel amongst the wine regions, sampling delicious drops.
Some of the highlights at the Loire Wine bar include the Robert et Marcel Reserve de Vignerons, Rosé de Loire 2022, crafted from grapes grown in incredibly rich soil west along the river and featuring red berry flavours and a dry, light body. The Domaine du Petit Clocher, Anjou Rouge is the perfect red to warm you up during this cold and wintery weekend, with notes of cooked black fruit and liquorice. If, like me, you’re a big fan of French sparkling, the Quinza Arpents, Vouvray Brut is dry, silky-soft and bursting with apple notes and definitely worth a taste this weekend.
As well as the wine (which, let’s be honest, is the main draw), there’s also plenty of delicious food and fun experiences to get involved in at the Bastille Festival. Learn to make classic French dishes like soufflé and chocolate fondant, or watch a French cabaret show while sipping on mulled wine and nibbling on gooey cheese.
