In preparation for the annual Adelaide Fashion Festival, Hindmarsh Square will be transformed into a fabulous runway where Adelaide’s best designers will showcase their new collections for the world.
The Adelaide Fashion Festival is South Australia’s premier fashion and design event, with twenty-two designers coming together to feature at different events throughout the four-day festival.
Premier Jay Weatherill officially launched the festival this evening, much to the excitement of those who love seeing what amazing collections Adelaide has to offer.
“The Adelaide Fashion Festival will showcase South Australia’s growing local fashion industry with the opportunity for design houses to show their works on the international and national stage,” Mr Weatherill said.
The prestigious A Night Of Fashion At The Art Gallery will showcase as part of the Adelaide Fashion Festival for the first time, as well as runway shows from national labels Sally Phillips and Liza Emanuele.
Other exciting events taking place will be the transpersonal runway collection from Lexi Label, the new season release from casper&pearl and the BNKR Runway, which will feature labels from Fashion Bunker and an after party everyone will want to be at.
Another exciting aspect of the festival starts with the Premier’s Design Award, given to final year TAFESA Fashion Design graduates who will then work with industry successes like Paul Vasileff (Paolo Sebastian), Chris Kontos (Australian Fashion Labels), Sally Phillips, Liza Emanuele and Tiff Manuel.
The five lucky students who win this award will work under the mentorship of the five established designers to design and create an outfit that will be shown at the Adelaide Fashion Festival.
One of these students will then be selected as the overall winner at the Adelaide Fashion Festival, with the prize being a twelve month industry mentorship program.
Previous winners include Paul Vasileff (Paolo Sebastian), now an international red carpet favourite, and Simmone Standing (Simmone Standing The Label), who will be showing on the Spring 16 Fashion Palette at New York Fashion Week this year.
Mr Weatherill believes it’s fortunate that Adelaide has such wonderful home grown talent and is grateful for the five mentors for giving back to the local industry.
“This is an amazing chance for us to develop our local design talent and have the Adelaide Fashion Festival create a legacy for development and mentoring within the industry.” said Mr Weatherill.
The Adelaide Fashion Festival will take place from October 22nd -25th this year. We look forward to seeing you all there!
