For those who enjoy keeping an eye out on up-and-coming designers, boy do we have a treat for you. Say hello to Ruby Watkins.
Ruby Watkins is a brand new label fresh off the boat, having launched only this year. Founded by a 21-year-old designer from Perth, Ruby Watkins, the label’s launch has been somewhat of a pipe dream become a reality for her. At such a young age, she’s already out there smashing goals! This has made us even more determined to get behind the brand and support our gal Ruby.
When the budding designer first reached out to us, she sent us the sweetest message. Telling us she was a long time follower of our blog and going so far as to call us idols was, well, a bit of an ego-boost… we’ll admit it! However her lovely personality and approachable demeanour are not the reasons we fell in love with this brand at an instant. And so they shouldn’t be, considering it’s the design and quality that should be swaying our opinions.
In saying that, the moment we received our Ruby Watkins package, the first thing we noticed was the sophisticated quality of the fabrics. Although rather lightweight, they were super soft and non-creasing – that’s ALWAYS a big tick from us as avid travellers. They also seemed to hang so elegantly when we held them up. And trying them on saw no different.
We picked out three different styles: the Do As You Please Blouse in Black, the Lola Pant in Black and The Born Sinner Dress in Black. Okay yes, we like black, but there’s also white available in all of those styles too! We just don’t often get white because we know it’s gonna come home stained and in a hopeless mess.
The Born Sinner Dress is your classic go-to LBD. It possesses all the qualities necessary to achieve ultimate date dress status. Think spaghetti straps, a seductively draped cowl neck and flattering ruched material. Our favourite part, however, was the versatility of this dress. Thanks to the hard work and effort put into the making of this design, the garment is able to go from midi to mini in just seconds! The side ties can be adjusted to your liking so you can go from business, to party, and then back again. That’s a two-in-one kinda deal.
The Lola Pant also just happened to be exactly the kind of design we were looking for at the time. High waisted, split front, flared pants. Why was it so hard to find this design anywhere online and in stores?! They’re pretty much the most flattering trousers out there, and we love a flirtatious thigh high split every now and then. Thanks Ruby, that’s one to tick off the wishlist.
And as for the blouse, this top makes for a gorgeous evening look when styled with the Lola Pant or even a pair of leather look jeans. The satin fabric gives it a touch of luxe and the deep plunge neck is, again, very much temptress vibes. It’s as if Ruby made her entire collection with the idea of ‘date night’ in mind… we couldn’t be more obsessed with this theme.
