What once was a sleepy Barnacle Bill’s in Brooklyn Park has since been transformed into the site of fresh new pizzeria – and it’s probably the best in the west.
Chicco Palms is a restaurant with a modest Californian theme and a real retro feel all throughout. It even comes fully equipped with bright neon lights working to distinguish its position around Henley Beach Road’s halfway point.
Their menu, however, is faithfully Italian. It features no-frills and delicious pizzas, with what can only be authentic methods of preparation and the adoption of unadulterated recipes.
The dough is spread and smoothed over with the chefs’ bare hands, as they then meticulously decorate the bases with fresh ingredients and place them in an iconic wood-oven, uniting them with the other bubbling bunch.
And the prices for these sweet sensations aren’t totally unreasonable, with the pizzas ranging from $14 to $24 and portions that’ll promise to leave you feeling pleasantly satisfied (carb-lovers rejoice).
Granted their menu isn’t overly extensive, but if you are after a little more than just a pizza, there are some meaty mains, a few quintessentially Italian pastas and of course, there is antipasto.
Even the exclusively lunch-only panini list seems enticing enough to warrant a sneaky afternoon visit.
Chicco’s is open Tuesday through to Saturday, from 11:30am till night; Sunday during the day and closed on Mondays.
