Ultimate day-drinking spot ‘The Pontoon’ launches on the Riverbank

Last week we head down to celebrate the launch of The Pontoon; a brand new pop-up venue offering picturesque riverside views of the city, endless offerings of booze and delectable bites to eat.

The Pontoon is afloat the River Torrens, located in Elder Park and just a short walk from hotspots North Terrace and Adelaide Oval. In a location so accessible, this makes it the perfect spot to mingle before a game at the oval, have a bite to eat before seeing a show at the Festival Centre or to simply sit back and enjoy the sunset before heading into town.

The set-up is colourful, funky and summery, highly suitable for day-drinking. A large marquee is central for those who wish to evade the beaming sunlight, however folding beach chairs line the riverbank under the sun for those looking to bask in the warmth (and maybe work on their tan).

The food menu is certainly one to drool over, offering nibbles such as Mac and Cheese Bites with herb aioli or Pit Smoked Chicken Wings with BBQ sauce and siracha mayo. Larger dishes include pit smoked meats such as Grain Fed Angus Beef Brisket, Pulled Pork Shoulder and locally made Sausages, all of which are offered either with slaw and pickle or in a brioche bun sandwich.

And with the dynamic team from 2KW Bar and Restaurant running The Pontoon bar, you know you’ll get great service and, of course, great beverages. We’d highly recommend trying the Slow Brew ‘Cali-Squeeze’ Blood Orange Hefeweizen – its sour fruitiness makes this beer a hot weather saviour.

The Pontoon is currently hosting ‘The Summer Series’, which is set to offer live music entertainment, wine/spirit events, movie nights and more. Think the likes of Acoustic Wednesdays, Jazzy Thursdays and an impressive lineup of DJs over the weekends such as Audioporn and James Curd. There’s also a d-floor section to boogie down on… that’s where you’ll likely find us after a few of those blood orange beers.

Potentially the best part about The Pontoon is its free entry – for entertainment and a lively venue like this, you can normally expect to pay for tickets or door entry.

So, make your summer one to remember; be sure to visit The Pontoon for a change of scenery and maybe even to get some of those Insta-worthy riverside snaps!
