This year, The Henry Austin and Anya Anastasia present Henrietta’s: a Fringe programme dedicated to artistic flair and adventurous cabaret.
Throughout the duration of Adelaide Fringe Festival, Henrietta’s will see a range of acts take over the multi-faceted Henry Austin venue, including puppetry, dancing, music and comedy, offering a little something to suit everyone.
Henrietta’s Creative Director and notable Fringe performer Anya Anastasia says: “We are artists. We take risks. We bare our souls, and vent our spleens. Speak our truths, challenge the status-quo, rattle cages. We also know how to have a damn good time.”
“Join us, with open ears, open hearts and open minds, and bring your dancing shoes as you never know what’s going to happen when the curtain falls. Dress fancy, explore your alter-egos, and come on down to Henrietta’s lair.”
And that we did as we made our way over to The Henry Austin last week for dinner and a show to see The Skulls: A High Speed Love Chase.
Performed by a skeletal mariachi band, The Skulls bring six award-winning artists together in a night of comedic entertainment which had us laughing for reasons we weren’t exactly sure why.
In a typical mariachi band manner, the members wore traditional Mexican costume and ran around sporadically, interacting with the crowd and babbling words that, well… weren’t really words.
Although you couldn’t really understand what they were saying, the band somehow had us laughing along and following the love story between the feminine, shy violin player and the bodacious lead singer.
Their giant skull heads may have totally freaked us out at first, but we got used to them over time!
