Planar is Modern Australian served with waterfront views

In Sydney, we are so lucky to be spoilt with so many waterfront locations, like the bustling Darling Harbour precinct. Here is where we were invited into Planar, a stunning venue serving up Modern Australian cuisine. Most of the restaurant is located outside where you can appreciate the glittering water, with fairy lights and flowers aplenty completing the pretty scene. Perfect date spot? We think so.

As we weren’t on a date we got right into business, aka. eating the food. We had been recommended the prawn lollipops by another food blogger who had visited recently, and they absolutely did not disappoint. Fresh prawns were marinated in a mildly spicy sriracha butter sauce, with a squeeze of lime to balance out the heat. As figs are currently in season and having a moment, we also ordered the fig and prosciutto bruschetta, layered with buffalo mozzarella and truffle oil atop sourdough bread. The sweetness from the figs really offset the saltiness of the cured meat, and we’d recommend ordering both these dishes to start.

We can’t seem to see kangaroo on the menu and not order it. Planar’s kangaroo was served chargrilled with a zesty orange sauce, which we found an interesting pairing with the kangaroo. The tart sweetness of the orange added a pleasantly light finish to the kangaroo, and the cocktail potatoes and roasted capsicum were nice accompaniments to round out the dish.

If you want to impress your date, the pasta dishes at Planar are for sure the way to go. The lobster linguini is beautifully fresh, with chunks of soft lobster meat and zucchini tossed with a light coating of cream, parsley, garlic and parmesan. The favourite dish for us had to be the duck ravioli though, featuring large pillows of tender duck meat served with a rich pink sauce that was absolutely delicious. Finished off with dried cherry tomatoes, baby spinach and crisp flatbread (perfect for scraping up the last of that sauce), it was the highlight of our evening.

As well as making a romantic spot for two, Planar also offers a mean happy hour deal. From 3pm-6pm every day they have a selection of beer and wine for $5, cocktails for $10 and food offerings from $5-$12. Sounds like the perfect place to toast to the end of the work week to us.
