Public is one of our favourite local cafes run by dynamic husband and wife duo Danielle and James, sharing a love for food that brings them together in a dynamic culinary journey. Running one of Adelaide’s most successful brunching destinations, the two have made their passion a career and are now bringing even more love into the business with the introduction of couple cooks Bradley Pearce and Cheryse Pearce. With Bradley taking the role of Executive Chef and Cheryse taking up Head Pastry Chef, the two have created a delicious new menu which we had the pleasure of sampling this week.
We head in for breakfast one sunny Tuesday morning, excited to try what’s new and happening at Public. The brekkie menu, available Monday to Friday from 7am ’til 11:30am, covers a whole lot of healthy goodness (as well as the not-so healthy goodness, too). The dishes range from $10-$22 for a wholesome, hearty breakfast and sides of bacon, avocado, potato hash, cured salmon and more are also options with a little extra cost.
Mel ordered herself the new Sea Scram, which was perhaps the most unique dish on the menu, combining scrambled eggs with seafood such as crab, clams, cured salmon and salmon croutons. Mixing seafood and eggs might not sound particularly appealing to many, so it was certainly a daring choice on Mel’s behalf. Complete with house-made dill oil and sourdough, the dish was very filling and satisfying.
Kristen had the Smashed Avocado in a tribute to the controversy currently surrounding Generation Y-ers and their ability to spend away their first home deposit. For something a little bit different, she added grilled haloumi. The smashed avo was zesty and fresh, with grilled lime, feta and salty balsamic reduction. Served with poached eggs (and the delicious fried haloumi), this dish was the perfect, fresh breakfast I was looking for.
We both sipped on a delicious Public smoothie each, with Mel indulging in an acai, banana and coconut water concoction and Kristen sipping on a Breakfast Smoothie, consisting of banana, mango, house made granola, honey, milk and ice-cream.
Public is located at 12 Franklin Street and is open for business Monday through to Thursday, 7am-5pm, Friday 7am to late and Saturday 8am to 2pm.
