For the past year and a half, celebrations of any kind have pretty much been cancelled. As a result, any restaurant openings or new menu launches have been subdued, and we’ve seriously missed going along to help celebrate and create content. Now that things are returning to normal in Australia, we were able to head along to the new menu launch at Bondi Junction’s Spring Street Social, and it was the perfect evening to help us get back into the swing of things.
Spring Street Social is a unique venue on the Sydney nightlife scene in that it’s open every evening (even Monday) until 2am, with live music seven nights a week. A bar with bites, you can nibble on some pretty tasty food here while enjoying both contemporary and classic cocktails.
The new menu boasts a variety of interesting Asian-Fusion dishes, which we were able to try a selection of on the evening. The food was the perfect accompaniment to the G.H.Mumm champagne that was circulating the event, and although it was hard to pick just a few favourite dishes, these were the ones we’d order again next time we visit Spring Street Social.
First up, the oysters. Who can look past a good set of oysters on a menu, especially when they’re paired with rice vinegar, shallots, chilli and yuzu ponzu, bonito, tobiko and cucumber, giving them a tangy Asian twist? Anything rare always speaks to us, so we have to give the beef tataki and hiramasa kingfish tartare a mention. The tataki was perfectly seared on the outside but wonderfully red on the inside still, teamed with ginger, shallot oil and daikon. The kingfish was gently smoked with tea (creating a super dramatic presentation), then served with chilli peanuts, pickled shallot, black garlic fragrant herbs. Yum. Finishing off our ideal order at Spring Street Social would be the burrata (of course). Fresh and creamy burrata is complemented by sweet and juicy tomato berries, roasted chilli oil, cashew butter and cucumber, creating a light and lovely dish.
You know your girls never back down from a challenge. To top the evening off, we won the luxe 3L magnum of G.H.Mumm at the Spring Street Social event, which we’re super grateful for and popped with our best friends over the weekend to celebrate a 30th.
If you’re keen to check out Spring Street Social’s new menu, or you’re looking for a late-night venue to sink some drinks any night of the week, you can find them in Bondi Junction open 5pm-2am.
