Stephanie Chehade’s pop-up shop launches in Ebenezer Place

Adelaide designer Stephanie Chehade opened her pop-up shop off Adelaide’s east end in Ebenezer Place on Friday evening, featuring a selection of her beautiful designs from her ready-to-wear and made-to-order collection. Tucked away from the many commercial fashion outlets on Rundle Street, Stephanie Chehade’s one of a kind pieces hang around the intimate space catching your eye upon entering. Concrete floors, high white ceilings and walls, and a minimalist tone help make her pieces stand out alone.

Coming from a fashion fueled background, Stephanie’s knowledge and passion oozes from each piece she creates. Her grandmother was a tailor and her grandfather Karl Chehade established the successful and reputable South Australian business we all know today, Chehade Dry Cleaners. Being raised with the appreciation for fashion and caring for clothing, Stephanie was inspired to pursue a career in fashion design, focusing on this idea of quality not quantity.

Initially Stephanie’s designs were made-to-order, but now after a few years of experience, she has finally released her exclusive ready-to-wear collection that comprises monochromatic hues like black and white, bold designs like the ‘Thunder Vest’ that combines a sexy yet elegant aesthetic, and a number of dresses and pantsuits that feature striking cut-outs, contrasting lengths, and quality materials. A standout is undoubtedly Stephanie’s range of made-to-order outfits individually embellished with pearlescent beads, delicate lace, and fine white detail, embodying a femininity that seems to lack from what we see in large retail chains around the state.

We were privileged to view a stunning range comprising a jacket, dress, and playsuit, each piece tying into one another with intricate detail of ethereal sheer contrasting a solid and refined ivory texture. A made-to-order piece usually takes around 2-3 weeks to make, and sizing for the ready-to-wear collection starts from a 6-12.

Stephanie studied an Advanced Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology at TAFE SA and graduated 7 years ago. Since then, one of her biggest achievements has been her debut at Fashion Palette New York Fashion Week, where she showcased her ‘Calm After the Storm Collection’. This year, Stephanie made her mark on Adelaide’s thriving fashion scene and was featured at the 2016 Adelaide Fashion Festival, as well as designing a gown exclusively for Jesinta Campbell, fiance of Sydney Swans star Buddy Franklin, that turned heads at the Brownlow Medal.

Stephanie is excited that she can finally have a place where customers can come and try on clothes, accessories or view the range if they’re interested in getting anything made. The pop-up shop at 16 Ebenezer Place, Adelaide will stay for a 5 week period, so be sure to stop by the next time you’re in the city to view Stephanie’s exquisite designs.
