This SA wine label has removed 5.5m plastic bottles from the sea

The Hidden Sea Wine Chardonnay

It’s not often you get to help save the planet by doing literally nothing at all, let alone do it by drinking wine. While it sounds too good to be true, South Australian wine label The Hidden Sea is making that a reality. We wrote about this incredible winery in August 2020, only a month after its launch in July 2020. Since then, they’ve removed and recycled the equivalent of 5.5 MILLION plastic bottles from the sea, and are well on their way to their goal of one billion by 2030.

So, how exactly can you get involved in cleaning up the sea? For each bottle of wine you purchase from The Hidden Sea, they work with ReSea Project to remove the plastic equivalent of ten drinking bottles from oceans and rivers globally. Buy a case, and that’s 60 plastic bottles removed. Talk about a guilt-free drink.

The Hidden Sea Wine

The OG trio of wines The Hidden Sea launched with, a rosé, a chardonnay and a shiraz, have quickly become some of our all-time favourites and a go-to whenever we’re going over to a friend’s house for dinner. Not only are they great easy-drinking wines, but they provide a really fun talking point when you whip out the environmentally-friendly story behind the brand. Recently they’ve added two more varietals to their list, a sauvignon blanc and a pinot grigio, which we’re yet to try but as pinot is one of our favourite styles of wine, we’ll be getting our hands on soon.

This innovative SA label is now also available in the UK (our second home), Denmark and Sweden, and we honestly couldn’t be happier to see such a great local company growing. If you’re looking to get your hands on some of The Hidden Sea’s wine, you can purchase them in cases off their website with free Australia-wide shipping, at First Choice Liquor and at Dan Murphy’s.
