So the Adelaide Fringe Festival has once again snuck up on us all and all of a sudden, the opening weekend has arrived. If you’re stressing out about which shows to go and see … just breathe. You’ve got more than enough time to read the program from start to finish. Saying that, if you ‘ceebs’ and just want to know what will be worth your while, then here are three shows you can see this weekend that are guaranteed to make you laugh, sing and maybe even believe in magic.
Gospo Collective – Jackson vs Jackson
Last year we said Gospo Collective’s sell out show, ‘Gospolation’ was like Miss Janet Jackson’s 1989 hit Rhythm Nation. When she commanded “people of the world unite” she was talking about working together and the strength in numbers, which is how Gospo have become a nationally acclaimed concert spectacular. (If you don’t believe us and our psychic abilities to predict the theme of their show this year then click here.)
This year Gospo have moved into Gluttony and are premiering a new show to the world featuring hits from two of the greatest musicians to have ever walked the earth. Jackson Vs Jackson is a tribute show featuring the greatest hits from the King and Queen of Pop. That’s right, both Janet Jackson and the late Michael Jackson will come together again for a joyful sixty minutes in a way you have never heard them before.
Known for their incredibly groovy mashups of secular hits and religious tunes sung in gospel style, the Collective will make you jump up from your seats to dance. Led by Charmaine Jones-Devasagayam and backed by a supporting choir of over 50 local and interstate singers, the Collective will take you through hits such as Billie Jean, Man in the Mirror and All for You with their unique vocal sound and pure passion which has helped made them so popular.

Courtney Act – Under the Covers
Back after her successfully naughty show, The Girl From Oz at the 2017 Adelaide Caberet Festival, the gloriously glamourous Courtney Act invites you to slip under the covers with her. Performing all your favourite songs that have been covered to death, the internationally acclaimed drag performer will show you how genre and gender are irrelevant when it comes to making something old and overdone sound so new, fresh and exciting. An official 2018 Adelaide Fringe Festival Ambassador and an incredibly talented performer, Courtney Act in Under the Covers is a cabaret show sure to delight you. Be sure not to miss it this weekend as Courtney Act is performing for two nights only.

Paul Dabek – Encore
2017’s Adelaide Fringe ‘Best Magic Show’ winner, Paul Dabek is back with his quick wit, sexual innuendos and cheeky smile in ‘Encore’. Oh … and there is really good magic too! Dabek’s magic is in fact quite captivating and jaw dropping but it’s his cheeky sense of humour and constant interaction with his audience that make the UK entertainer so popular worldwide.
