Located right in the heart of Federation Square is Il Pom, an authentic Italian restaurant that will have you rolling out of there in a carb-loaded dream.
Lazing about in the al fresco area outside is the best spot for people-watching, but on a windy day the well-lit inside dining area has just as great views with floor-to-ceiling windows.
On a recent trip to Melbourne we found ourselves craving some pasta, and Il Pom satisfied our needs with the Linguine di Fruitti di Mare and the Cannelloni Fruitti di Mare.
Both seafood dishes, the linguine came in a huge bowl with loads of seafood like scallops, prawns, salmon, mussels and calamari, in a fresh white wine, lemon, garlic and chilli sauce. This is a fab option for those who don’t want a heavy tomato-based dish, best paired with a light white wine.
The cannelloni was bursting with a filling of scallops, shrimp and salmon and served with an Australian King Prawn on top.
As a light side dish, we ordered the Piccola Insalata Caprese, aka. a Caprese salad. It was the perfect antidote to all the heavy food we were craving, offering us a bite of freshness with just a few simple ingredients: buffalo mozzarella, vine ripened tomatoes, basil and balsamic.
On your next people-watching lunch, pop past Il Pom at Federation Square, 2 Swanston St, Melbourne.
