Last year, fellow Adelaidian writer Jaimie Halliday and I were invited to Carmine & Co, where we were able to indulge in some of the best Italian food I’ve had in my life. This year, Anthony and his family are offering something new to the Fringe season.
Aperitivo Ora (‘Happy Hour’) is an Italian-themed pop-up bar located in Port Adelaide, just behind Carmine and Co. With Italian inspired food, cocktails, and drinks, Aperitivo Ora is an incredible location to spend time with friends, family, and colleagues. Those of us in attendance indulged in charcuterie platters and fresh margarita pizza while sipping on cocktails such as the Aperol Spritz and the infamous Basil Smash (My favourite). Other dishes making the rounds were slow cooked pork sliders and homemade arancini balls.
When I spoke with Anthony Misale, the man behind Aperitivo Ora, he explained that launching the bar was a means of “pumping up” Port Adelaide, and promoting it as a desirable and up-and-coming location for many.
With a home-grown garden, European aesthetic and atmosphere, Aperitivo Ora is a breath of fresh air to what you may find in the heart of the Adelaide CBD. Not to mention the warmth and hospitality offered by Anthony and his family is as genuine as it is bountiful. I’d like to thank them wholeheartedly for our invitation, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
Aperitivo Ora will be open from 6:30pm-1:00am Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for a limited time during the Fringe month. And if your stomach is asking for something a little more, feel free to pop into Carmine and Co; Nonna Vicky will surely take care of you!
