Us Adelaidians are always looking for an excuse to break out of winter hibernation, and in this case the idea of a booze filled hot chocolate drew us out from under our doonas.
The Lodge pop-up bar launched at Skycity Adelaide last week and we were invited to take a peek… and escape the quilt curse of winter.
The Adelaide casino has transformed the space in to a winter hideaway, complete with wood panelling, cosy chairs and a giant moose head. TVs are used to project images of blizzard snow and roaring fireplaces, adding to the ski lodge theme.
The bar is fully stocked with drinks to warm up your insides, like hot buttered rum and mulled Rekorderlig cider. I tried the bourbon hot chocolate, and they are not playing around. This is some serious boozy stuff! Ain’t no one drinking that and feeling cold after… or driving home after.
The boozy hot chocolate matches perfectly with the Mangia Mangia zeppoles. A zeppole is an Italian doughnut, and it’s the only thing that comes close to the hot cinnamon doughnuts that you get at the Royal Show (which are literally the best thing in the world). For those without a sweet tooth, fancy cheese boards are on offer as well.
The Lodge is open Friday and Saturday nights up until the 19th of August, well worth a visit for an after dinner, boozy nightcap.
