Sydney nightlife gets a taste of Morocco with Maali

First, it was the lockout laws that came for Sydney’s nightlife. Then, lockdown put the final nail in the coffin for struggling hospitality venues in the once vibrant CBD. In a post-lockout, post-pandemic world though, the city is slowly coming back to life with new and innovative venues for people of the night to explore.

It wasn’t too long ago we welcomed Eros into Potts Point, a stylish venue with white archways reminiscent of the Greek Islands and tasty Mediterranean sharing food. Just down the road, another chic new nightlife spot has just opened to join Eros, this time offering some Moroccan charm.

Walking down the waterfall steps into Maali, guests are greeted by a cavernous space lit by moody red lights. The main dancefloor sits in front of an elevated DJ booth with a VIP area behind it, while archways around the venue open up into private booths where bottle service is available. Wandering among the crowd are belly dancers, tarot readers and snake charmers, entertaining guests as they sip on cocktails and shoot Patròn.

It’s a moody, Arabian Nights-inspired wonderland and much-welcomed new addition to the Sydney nightlife scene. Open from 8pm until 3:30am Friday and Saturdays, it promises to bring the best of Sydney’s DJs and special guests to the decks, ensuring it’s always a vibe.

As with any great venue, there’s a happy hour. From 8pm-10pm guests can enjoy $12 Patròn Watermelon Margaritas and $12 Bombay Sapphire Gin Cocktails. As an added incentive to get to Maali early, you can register to join the guestlist for $10 off before 10pm on Fridays and $5 off with priority entry on Saturdays.

You can follow Maali on Instagram to keep up-to-date with any special events and DJs.
