For the past three years, Lady Burra Brewhouse has grown into a formidable force on the SA beer scene. It’s the only micro-brewery in Adelaide CBD, offering a range of carefully crafted brews.
Last Wednesday night, we attended Lady Burra’s summer launch, showcasing a brand new deck and some vibrant summer surprises. And yes, the folks behind Lady Burra are taking things to the next level with a brand new rooftop bar later this year, named Two Suns.
While you might not think of Topham Mall, located between Currie St and Waymouth St, as an evening hotspot, Lady Burra seeks to change that. The new summer deck launch invites the overhaul of Topham Mall. While cafés and restaurants in the area are great during the day, the evening bar scene is somewhat lacking. But, it won’t be for long. Lady Burra is a perfect spot for afternoon drinks, with an excellent food selection and expertly craft beers, and has now expanded to accommodate even more people for knock-off drinks.
The brewery now offers a pilsner, an Irish red ale, an Indian pale ale, and the classic pale ale. Our favourite of the evening was the India pale ale, with the citrus and fruity aromas providing the perfect refresher on a hot summer’s night. Lucky for us, the new deck expansion and upcoming rooftop bar will mean more beers, more good food, and good times. Count us in!
The Portuguese-inspired food offered at Lady Burra is also a great way to chill out after work or before a big night. We began our evening enjoying some French-inspired tarts with goat’s cheese, caramelised shallots, glaze, and puff pastry. We then gorged on Rosa’s seafood paella, wood oven pizzas, and some cheeky Aperol Spritz out on the shiny new deck. We especially loved the mushroom pizza with fior di latte and truffle oil, because who doesn’t love truffle?
The new deck space will make Lady Burra an excellent pre and post Fringe venue this festival season. We were able to get a taste of the theatrics on Wednesday night with fire twirlers and great music all night. The new outdoor space, complete with street art, certainly extended a fun festival vibe to the evening.
Steven Kidd, Owner of Kidd Retail Group, explained that the organisation is working closely with Adelaide City Council to transform the Topham Mall laneway.
“The activation of external seating and changes to the outdoor aesthetics of Lady Burra Brewhouse not only gives our clientele more al fresco dining options, the upgrade also creates a connection between the southern end of the CBD and Adelaide Oval,” said Mr. Kidd.
The company also announced that it will soon be opening a wine tasting room to house some local wine labels that don’t have their own cellar doors, named The Noble Gentleman. For all of the suits who work in the area, this tasting room will elevate Lady Burra as the perfect spot to relax after a day in the office.
For all those who like to make informed choices about the labels that they consume, rest assured. Lady Burra produces handcrafted all-natural beers that are preservative and additive free, with no added sugar. The brewery is also independently owned and community-orientated, so you know that you’re supporting a great local business by getting around the team at Lady Burra. Consider your next night out with the crew sorted.
Watch out, laneway bars of Peel Street, things are changing in Topham Mall.
