The Adelaidian takes Ibiza: The places we visited

As you would have seen by our social media spam, we recently head over to Ibiza for the first time to experience a typical European summer vacay. This whirlwind extravaganza included everything you’d expect from an Ibiza trip and more; booze, glitter bum bags, late night/early morn partying, sleeping on the beach, booze x2 and ludicrously lush resorts. We decided to sum up the list of places we visited to give you a little insight into our first-timers experience of this renowned Spanish party island!

Day One

Zoo Bar

Thanks to a cancelled flight and the debacle of our original Saturday night arrival, we had to head straight out the moment we arrived on the island the following day. Strolling the Old Town at 7PM, we stumbled across a happening place called Zoo Bar. Laden with coloured neon lighting and signage, the cocktail bar looked a lil bit over-the-top promotional, but it had a buzzing vibe for sure. According to ibiza-experience.com, it “is one of the most famous bars in the area where clubbers meet before a party at Amnesia or Hï Ibiza”, which would make sense considering our next destination of choice.

Hï Ibiza

Hï Ibiza is actually one of (if not the) newest nightclubs in Ibiza. However, the club was actually formerly known as Space Ibiza which was recounted to us by many as “an establishment” and “it was the best nightclub on the island back in the day, maaaan“. In fact, one of our faves Carl Cox was a resident there for up to 15 years. Sounds like Hï has a lot to live up to, right?

We went on a Sunday which was headlined by Steve Angelo of Swedish House Mafia and had a grand night out, staying ’til 5-6am ish. Roughly. Lil blurry. The venue was actually smaller than expected, but that made for a super packed d-floor which is always a good thing.

Day Two

Playa d’en Bossa

Hungover Mondays call for relaxing beach hangs on the island, so we decided to walk along the stretch of beach in Playa d’en Bossa. It was a totally gorgeous location, with clear blue water and really not that many people to overcrowd the shore. As the stretch of beachside is so long, there’d likely be some places that can get quite packed, so we were just lucky to have explored the quieter spots.

Cafes, bars and restaurants can be found all along the strip, so made a quick lunch stop to indulge in some calamari and chips… and get an Insta shot while we were at it.

Cafe Del Mar

Ahh, the iconic Cafe Del Mar. This bar and restaurant has been around since 1980 and is still going strong as the go-to spot in Ibiza for an incredible sunset view. Located to the west of the island in San Antonio, Cafe Del Mar offers great food, drinks and a blissful atmosphere. It’s interior is built in levels – similar to what an amphitheatre might do – so that guests get the very best view of the sunset no matter where they’re standing or sitting.

The funniest thing is when they start playing dramatic strings and tunes as the sun goes down; it apparently happens every night and it makes you feel like you’re in some kind of weird romance movie. AND let’s not forget the fact that Cafe Del Mar is actually Ibiza’s home of chillout music, with relaxing albums, mixes and playlists to offer. We even heard one girl mention that her mum still has her Cafe Del Mar CD from an Ibiza trip she went on in the 80’s. Classic.

Day Three

Hacienda Na Xamena

This was HANDS DOWN one of the most exquisite, extra and ethereal hotels we have ever stayed in. Ever. Tucked away in the secluded hills of the north, this lush resort is renowned for its cliffside views, infinity pool and spa experience, gigantic ensuites and breathtaking sunsets. Amnesia Nightclub

Amnesia is one of the big, internationally renowned clubs of Ibiza… and big it is! The place was huge, pretty sure we got lost in it several times. We had a blast at the club’s Together Tuesdays with residents Gorgon City, Chase and StatusPendulum and more.

You can expect the expected of a typical Ibiza nightclub here – girls with double braids covered in glitter from head-to-toe and guys fist-pumping furiously on the d-floor. We particularly enjoyed having the choice of a house or DnB room, as well as a spacious outside area with a bar to take a break every now and then.

Day Four

Ristorante Il Parvone

We ended our stay with a group feast at an Mediterranean/Italian spot in the Old Town named Ristorante Il Parvone. The restaurant had pretty raving reviews on TripAdvisor and we could see why. Ristorante Il Parvone served delicious meals that were rich, flavoursome and wholesome; exactly the kind of food you’d expect from an Italian restaurant. Their seafood gnocci (Riva Fivorita) was absolutely to die for, made up of mussels, squid, parmesan and a dense, creamy sauce – we would definitely recommend trying this dish!
