Tucked away down Brebner Drive, West Lakes is a hidden gem of an eatery called Sportivo. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, it’s much more than just a stop on your Westfield shopping trip.
We popped past for breakfast early one Tuesday morning, and upon entering were instantly greeted with a spectacular view of the gorgeous lake. Though there’s plenty of seating inside, we made a beeline for the courtyard where we could enjoy uninterrupted views in the fresh air.
We asked owner Ivano Panazzolo to make some recommendations for us, and he suggested trying the zucchini and corn fritters or the pumpkin pancakes, both of which have quickly become favourites amongst the customers. Though both these options sounded fantastic, Ivano said that personally he couldn’t resist the classic smashed avocado with a side of eggs.
The zucchini fritters sounded too good to pass up, loaded with smashed avocado, grilled haloumi, bacon, tomato relish and poached eggs, so we ordered those with a superfood bowl on the side.
The food came out quite quickly, and we were solidly impressed with the fritters. They were light and moist, with a good balance of flavour between the zucchini and the corn. The serving portions were generous, with two pieces of salty haloumi perfectly cooked, two crunchy rashers of bacon, two eggs and a mountain of smashed avo on the side. There were so many elements on the plate, but they all worked well together and created a seriously satisfying brunch dish.
Being a sucker for superfood bowls we had to indulge in one of these, and choose one blended with oats, blueberries, banana and coconut milk topped with more blueberries, kiwi fruit, almonds, granola and coconut strips. Superfood bowls are a great options for those who like to have a light breakfast, because they still make you feel energised and full as they’re packed with loads of nutrients and natural sugars that give you energy throughout the day. This one was super fresh and tasty, slightly sweetened with the maple syrup and a good consistency that wasn’t too runny to support the fruit and nuts sitting on top.
As well as breakfast/brunch, Sportivo also offer wood fire pizzas for lunch which Ivano assured us were delicious and worth coming back to try. Sportivo only re-opened with their new menu last week, so make sure you pop down soon and enjoy their delicious new dishes while being seated on the waterfront of West Lakes.
Sportivo is open from 10am-late Tuesday to Thursday and 8:30am-late Friday to Sunday.
