Game of Rhones 2016

Winter is coming… and with it comes wine. Game of Rhones is back in Adelaide for a fourth season and it is bigger than ever!

For those of you not in-the-know with this wine-drous (see what I did there) event let me fill you in. Basically it is a celebration by the crew from Bottle Shop Concepts of the Rhone varietals produced in Australia with a Game of Thrones theme. Dressing up in theme is encouraged so think of the event as being a wino comic-con.

Rhone varietals include some you may be familiar like Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre and Viognier, and a few you may not be acquainted with like Carignan, Cinsault and Roussane. A GA ticket gets you entry, a Plumm glass to take home and the opportunity to taste over one hundred wines from some of the best Australian and New Zealand producers between the hours of 1pm-6pm. Or you can go all out and get a Royal Pass, which gives you entry from 11am, some extra special tastings and a food voucher.

As well wine tasting, a special Rhone bar will be at the event staffed by sommeliers with a bevy of knowledge about the region. Wines will be offered by the glass at very reasonable prices.

There are over 40 wineries involved this year, spanning from well known to the unique and boutique and including plenty from South Australia. Big names such as Henschke Wines, Shaw + Smith, Yalumba and d’Arenburg will be there along side smaller producers like Tim Smith, Ministry of Clouds and Miotolo.

So amongst all the amazing wineries that will be there, who would we recommend sampling? Glad you asked!

Not to miss:

  • Tim Smith Wines from the Barossa for Grenache and award winning Viogner
  • Brash Higgins from McLaren Vale for Shiraz
  • Yalumba from the Barossa for Roussane

Game of Rhones is at the Published Arthouse (Cannon Street) on Sunday the 1st of May. Last year the event was a sell out so mare sure to purchase tickets in advance and ready your tastebuds because wine is coming!
